Japan Day

Japan Day (Japantag) is a real highlight in Duesseldorf. Once a year, the Japanese community celebrates the German-Japanese friendship with the Duesseldorf residents. Because here you find the third largest Japanese community outside Japan in Europe. Around 600,000 visitors celebrate the Japan Day - often in best summer weather. Many cosplayers dress up as manga figures, sports clubs show japanese martial arts and at many stalls you can buy games, clothes or origami figures - just anything that has to do with traditional and modern Japan.

The highlight is the japanese fireworks starting at 11pm. Tip: Either be there early and secure a good place on the Rhine promenade or (insider tip!) go to the other side of the river. Here you have the old town as a skyline and a lot of space on the meadows. By no means arriving by car for Japan Day - the parking situation is catastrophic.
